Watercolours have a wonderful glow to them and are especially effective for soft, subtle images. I love the transparency and the way the colours work together when water acts as the medium. Although my work is representational, I love to let the pigments charge into one another within shapes.
Acrylics have the advantage of bright colours and wonderful darks. They are a more forgiving medium and work best for me in more dramatic images. I still strive to preserve some transparent colour within each composition.
The area where I live is one of rolling hills, flowing rivers, grasslands and forests. The lines here are sinuous and full of movement, something I try to capture in my works. I also love painting in the Rockies where line and shape converge in interesting patterns.
Capturing light is an ongoing challenge and fascination for me. I am happiest when the light in a piece is striking in some way.
